The Defender of Fire comic has come a long way before reaching the reader. The author, Iman Tadayon, an Iranian by nationality, wanted to publish the comic in his homeland, but for a number of reasons he failed. Fortunately, the guys from UA Comix took matters into their own hands and handed him over to Ukraine.
"Defender of Fire" is primarily an attempt by the author to convey to the world a part of Persian mythology, which is the basis of a separate religion. Of course, for me, who had never been interested in the culture and history of the Middle East, it was difficult to resort to all the subtleties. Therefore, I had to open Wikipedia and study this issue a little deeper. And so that you don't have to do the same, keep a bit of historical background.
From the second to the seventh centuries AD, the territory of modern Iran was part of Yeranshahr, or more simply, the Sassanid State, which controlled almost the entire Middle East and Central Asia. The religion of the Sassanid state was Zoroastrianism, in which Ahura Mazda is considered the supreme god and creator. The followers of Zoroastrianism were named because they lit it in temples and addressed their prayers to it. The opposite of Ahuramazda is Ahriman, who seduces people into evil deeds and leads legions of devas. Also, if you've played Prince of Persia games, then Ahriman is the main antagonist. In the 7th century, the Arab Caliphate conquered most of the continent, including Yeranshahr, as the Islamization of modern Iran and the destruction of Zoroastrian temples took place. Today, there are about 200,000 Zoroastrians in the world.
The comic tells us about a modern priest of Zoroastrianism, Mehran, one of the members of the Order of the Guardians of Fire. From the first shots, it seems that the Guardians exist to complain about themselves, but then it turns out that they also prevent Ahriman and his army of devas from breaking into our world. To do this, they were given gold discs long ago, which, in good hands, turn into an analog of a laser blaster and shoot a beam of light. One of these artifacts is so powerful that it had to be divided into two parts and hidden in different temples so that no one could use its power for evil purposes.
Trying to save the last of the seven chosen ones, who separate Ahriman from the invasion of the earth and whose origin is not explained to us, the guardians stumble upon the Jerusalem Crusaders. They fought with the Muslim army (by Alliance!) In the name of God, we entered a portal that appeared on the battlefield and were transported right into our time. The Crusaders, instead of being scared of cars and throwing a spear at the TV, unite with the guardians and all together go to the place where the evil spirits were last seen, namely in the XII century.
The first part of the comic ends with the guardian of the time of the Sassanids appearing to the main character and transferring him into his mind, like an Animus, in order to discover the truth. In general, I can say that the comic turned out well. First of all, he attracts attention with his drawing, and if you understand what is happening, then also with the plot. Therefore, we will wait for the second part of the comic and think about what else the author will tell us. Open the mobile browser version of mel bet and place bets on the go.
